Welcome From The Chairman
I am Simon Longhurst, Chairman of Robertsbridge RFC. I am pleased to welcome you to the website of Robertsbridge Rugby Club and thank you for visiting. I hope it will be the first of many visits and that you will find each interesting, informative and amusing. Your feedback on our site would be greatly appreciated and if nothing else I would ask that you sign our Guest Book.
As you will see from our history we were founded in 1993. Being completely self-financing and not having our own pitch or clubhouse, this has been a major achievement and is down to the enthusiastic and loyal commitment of our players and supporters. In particular, the club benefits from strong and effective management through its committee and this will continue as the club grows and develops. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us so far and to ask them to continue to do so! We need your help to achieve our dreams and your support is appreciated.
The 2005/6 season saw us gain well deserved promotion to Sussex 2 and our goal was to ensure that we did not bounce straight down again! This was never going to be easy for a club of our size but we knew we had the ability and the motivation to succeed. And with a little bit of luck. Despite a terrible season for injuries (and I wish all the injured players a speedy and complete recovery over the summer months) and a dramatically reduced playing squad we achieved our goal and will start next season in Sussex 2. Well done to all concerned for sticking at it. If we can consolidate our position and develop for a couple of seasons we look forward to knocking on the door of Sussex 1 in due course! We learnt a great deal from last season (which included our reaching the finals of the Sussex Plate) and will build on this and I have no doubt that we will be stronger next season.
As part of our planned development we still hope to establish our own clubhouse and pitch, ideally in Robertsbridge. Our initial planning application met with some opposition but there is a great deal of support for rugby to be maintained in the area and we aim to capitalise on this. We are looking for possible locations both in and around Robertsbridge. If we have to move to ensure that rugby continues to thrive in the locality and will be available for youth and adult alike, we will. If you can help in any way please let me know.”
We are a small and friendly club and are pleased to welcome visitors and players of all ages and standards. Our fixtures can be seen on the site. On the social side we are already planning a day at the races, a family camp, beach barbeque, the annual pilgrimage to Twickenham, the usual pub events and various evening events open to all. If you are looking for a bit of fun, to enjoy yourself, to start playing rugby or are disillusioned with your current club, why not give us a go. I hope that you will be able to join us. Our continued growth will allow us to establish a permanent second team and to truly compete. If you want to be part of our development be it as a player, sponsor or supporter please get in touch. Who knows you may even feature on TV as we have done twice to date!
You will have visited this website for a number of reasons. If it was to find out more about us I hope to have helped. But the best way to find out more is to go for the "Bridge Experience" by visiting us. Contact details are on the Contacts button above.
